M5, Disc styli, stainless steel disc, aluminium shaft

Disc styli are used, among other things, to measure rotationally symmetrical workpieces with undercuts or recesses and bores. However, a strong filtering of the surface roughness usually occurs. With the design of the sphercial disk stylus, a higher accuracy is achieved compared to disk styli.

In this case a diameter 11 aluminum extension serves as a shaft. This allows you to use the entire stylus length as the measuring length. The continuous 1 mm shaft gives these styli a very high rigidity, but aluminum has very poor thermal properties.

Steel disks can be produced very cost-effectively. However, the accuracy is significantly lower than with ceramic or hard metal disks. Furthermore, stainless steel has poor wear behavior. Stainless steel disks should therefore be checked regularly for wear and accuracy.
